If I Can Just
(Susan Faucon)
If I can just be pretty enough, skinny enough and rich enough, then I will be happy, then I will be worthy? This is how I and many people I know can live our lives when we are choosing Ego over Spirit; the I/Then syndrome I call it.
If I can just get you to see me
If I can just get you to stare
Then you’ll fall in love with me
Then I’ll fall in love with me
If I can just cover these wrinkles
If I can just restore my youth
Then you’ll fall in love with me
Then I’ll fall in love with me
When you see me, do you see the love inside?
Do you see the all of me
Or on my breasts do you reside
When I see me do I see the love inside
Do I see the all of me
Or on my face do I reside
If I can just get rid of these voices
If I can just restore my mind
Then you’ll fall in love with me
Then I’ll fall in love with me
If I can just sedate the pain now
If I can just drink it away, or smoke it away, or cut it, or starve it, or sex it away
Then I’ll stand another day
Got to find another way
When I see you, when I look into your eyes
I’m afraid you that won’t love me
If I let go of my disguise
When you see me
Do you see the all of me
Do you know that all I want
Is all your love to set me free
